On Saturday, May 9, 2026, the atmosphere at Oriental Hotel was filled with excitement, inspiration, and hope as entrepreneurs, business leaders, dignitaries, and supporters gathered for the Grand Finale of the Akem Foundation Business Support Funding Program 2026. The event marked the climax of months of rigorous selection, mentorship, pitching, and entrepreneurial development, culminating in the live pitching competition featuring the Top 5 finalists selected from an initial pool of 70 applicants. More than just an award ceremony, the event became a powerful reflection of the Foundation’s commitment to raising entrepreneurs, building capacity, and creating sustainable impact in society. The grand finale attracted an impressive gathering of dignitaries and professionals from various sectors, including security, business, finance, entrepreneurship, leadership and development circles. Their presence underscored the growing relevance of the Akem Foundation’s mission and the importance of supporting visionary entrepreneurs who are solving real problems in society. One of the most touching moments of the event came from the Chairman of Akem Foundation, Dr. Ayo Ogunsan, who shared the inspiring story behind the Foundation. He reflected on how his parents, Engr. Akinola Ogunsan and Mrs. Emiola Ogunsan, after whom the Foundation was established, instilled in him and his siblings the timeless values of Integrity, Excellence, Discipline, Hard work, and Good character. According to him, these values shaped their outlook on life and inspired their commitment to giving back to society and empowering others. His remarks reminded everyone present that true success is not only measured by wealth, but also by character, values, and the ability to positively impact lives. The Chief Executive Officer of Akem Foundation, Abiodun Ogunsan, alongside the Secretary, Folorunso Ogunsan, expressed heartfelt appreciation to the donors, partners, and friends of the Foundation. They acknowledged the collective effort that made the program and the grand finale a success, emphasising that meaningful impact can only be sustained through collaboration and shared vision. The Patron of Akem Foundation, AIG Lanre Bankole, also delivered a compelling charge to participants and attendees. He encouraged everyone to remain committed to the Foundation’s vision and to continue supporting initiatives that empower people and transform communities. “Impact must never stop,” he emphasised, inspiring the audience to become active contributors to societal development. The most anticipated moment of the evening was the official announcement and presentation of funding support to the entrepreneurs who emerged victorious after the live pitching session. These entrepreneurs demonstrated innovation, resilience, market understanding, and strong business potential. Adetolani Amokaye emerged as the overall winner of the competition, receiving a funding prize of ₦2,050,000 for an outstanding entrepreneurial presentation and business performance. Her success reflects the power of vision, preparation, and consistency in business growth. Adeola Deborah Agboola secured the second position with a remarkable presentation that highlighted innovation, market relevance, and operational strength. She received ₦1,750,000 in funding support to further scale her business. Nkechi Gift Uzordima received ₦1,000,000 alongside additional international support from Madam May, which includes packaging support, marketing assistance, instant order opportunities, and fertilizer supply support for farmers. This strategic support demonstrates how entrepreneurship can open doors to valuable global partnerships and growth opportunities. Ekom Gideon Fidelis, the founder of RentBetaHouse App, received ₦750,000 alongside support aimed at helping him secure housing solutions for Chinese nationals living in Nigeria through his platform. This partnership opportunity reflects the growing importance of technology-driven solutions in Nigeria’s housing ecosystem. Ajala Tiyinloluwa Busola received ₦500,000 in support for her hair brand and business, recognising her consistency, entrepreneurial creativity, and commitment to growth in the beauty industry. One of the most remarkable aspects of the Akem Foundation Business Support Funding Program is that it goes beyond financial assistance. This holistic approach ensures that entrepreneurs are not only funded but also equipped with the mindset, structure, and knowledge required to thrive sustainably. The grand finale was not only delightful but deeply inspiring. It was a reminder that great ideas can transform communities, entrepreneurship remains a powerful tool for economic growth, and young business leaders only need opportunity, guidance, and support to create lasting impact. The energy in the room, the stories shared, and the victories celebrated all pointed to one truth: the future of entrepreneurship is bright when visionary people and purposeful organisations come together. As the curtains closed on the 2026 edition of the Business Support Funding Program, one thing became clear: this is more than an annual event; it is a movement dedicated to empowering people, nurturing innovation, and transforming lives. Akem Foundation continues to stand as a beacon of hope for entrepreneurs, proving that when opportunity meets preparation, extraordinary things can happen. To all the finalists and winners, congratulations once again. Your journeys are only beginning, and the impact ahead is limitless.
